What Is The Academy? (Kitchener Soccer Club)

PrintWhat Is The Academy?

The Academy Program is a level of training that provides the opportunity for teams to train above the currently existing Rep program level.  Academy participation is a personal choice for elite level athletes who are committed to taking their soccer game to the next level.

To ensure player and team success, the Academy program requires a year-round commitment.   This means there will be 48 weeks of structured programming that will vary in intensity and frequency during in-season, off-season and pre-season training and game play.

Year round training includes:

indoor on-field training at CORE outdoor training league play nutritional counseling

The Training Schedule is as follows:

Weeks 1-8 - 1 training session per week
Week 8-outdoor fields open - 3 indoor training sessions per week
Outdoor Training - 2x a week shared field & 1x a week full field

The Academy Program is led by our Academy Director, Mario Halipir.  Mario, a CSA National B-License coach, is also the long-standing Head Coach for the Wilfrid Laurier University Men’s Varsity Soccer team.  While coaching at the collegiate level, Mario has led teams to several National and Provincial titles, and also received an award for Soccer Coach of the Year from Ontario University Athletics.  In 2015, Mario was an integral member of the coaching staff for the North American Champions K-W United, playing in the PDL - part of the United Soccer League system that is considered the top U23 men’s league in North America.   He has also been involved with MLS franchise Toronto FC as a scout.  Before focusing on coaching, Mario played in the Canadian Soccer League.
