U14 Spirit 4 Guelph 4
Submitted By Mark Rebellato on Sunday, June 9, 2019
In our third consecutive game at home, we picked up four out of a possible 9 points on this home stand having lost to Waterloo, beating Chatham and a draw to Guelph.

This is a game we hope will not come back to hurt us in the final season standings given the fact that we gave up a 4-1 lead.

Milos Koprivica opened the scoring early with two goals within the first fifteen minutes.  Guelph cut the score in half off a corner kick that was deflected off Brandon Moniz's hand.  At the half Brandon came to the bench advising that something was not right with his finger, and we found out the following day that his finger is broken and that he will not be in net for us for at least one month.

In the second half we got off to a great start, Naoto Yamada got a great feed from Filip Ratiu and Yamada made it count berrying the ball past the Guelph keeper to make it 3-1.  Then moments later, Paul got a shot towards the goal that would likely had crossed if not for a hand ball in the box.  Ayman Hamad would score the penalty kick to pit us ahead 4-1.

Guelph would put up a fight, getting a goal on through ball Kitchener players thought was offside.  The line judge was certain the play was onside.  Guelph then make it even closer with another corner kick goal.  This cornerkick was likely unnecessary as we were not forced to kick the ball out.  We need to use our skill and patience before we kick balls our of bounds.

Guelph would then tie the game with less than 10 minutes to play on a penalty kick where Nathan Williams fouled a player in our 18 yard box.  Teammates advise Nathan took this penalty because he had been "slew foot" by the player he fouled moments before.

As we have not had many 3 goal leads, we will have to ensure we walk away with three points when that far ahead.  The fast turf at Woodside tells us that no lead is safe.  We will also need to work more on the defend side of the ball, our pressure looks off.
